List of Serving Board Members

The governing body of the NDIC is the Board of Directors which is responsible for the policy and general administration of the affairs and business of the Corporation.  As provided in the enabling act, the Board is appointed by the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and consists of a Part time Chairman, a representative of the Federal Ministry of Finance and Economic Development as member, representative of the Central Bank of Nigeria as member, the Managing Director and two Executive Directors of the Corporation and Six part time Directors.  The Chairman and other members of the Board are appointed for a term of five years which is subject to renewal.  However, should the Board be dissolved, the act provides that the Minister of Finance shall appoint a Management Committee for the Corporation, to temporarily perform the functions of the Board.

As the overall policy-making organ of the NDIC, the Board of Directors has powers to, among other things, manage and superintend the affairs of the Corporation, appoint officers required for carrying out the functions of the Corporation, appoint officers required for carrying out the functions of the Corporation with particular reference to the examination of insured banks, serve notice to any bank of the Corporation’s intention to remove such bank from its list of insured banks, and on the approval of the Minister of Finance, assume the management of a failing bank.  The Board also has powers to arrange for the sale of the assets of a failed bank (when NDIC acts as a receiver), remove from office any officer or director of a bank who has committed any violation of the law, rules and regulations of the Corporation or prosecute such erring officers or directors.

In the exercise of its powers and in the general administration of the Corporation, the Board is authorized to issue rules, regulations and instructions within the framework of the enabling act, to facilitate the efficient execution of its functions.

 Ambassador (Dr.) Hassan Adamu, CON (Wakili of Adamawa) – Chairman

Alhaji Hassan Adamu is a highly regarded Administrator, Business Man and a politician who has distinguished himself in various positions of authority within and outside Nigeria.  The Wakili of Adamawa holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Transport Studies, from University of London (1966) and has served variously as a Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as that of Environment.  He was also Nigeria’s Ambassador to the USA, as well as President of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).  The Wakili of Adamawa who served as Chairman and Director of several organizations, is a founding member of the PDP and member of PDP Board of Trustees representing Adamawa State.

 Mr. Lawan Zakaria Gana

Mr Gana a holder of ACIB (London), 1974, FCIB (London), 1985, FCIB (Nigeria), 1986 was Executive Director of Bank of the North and MD/CEO of Tropical Commercial Bank plc, Kano respectively.  He also served as a Director on the Boards of Yobe Investment and Properties Co. Ltd and Northern Nigeria Investment Ltd respectively.

 Ms. Bennedikter China Molokwu

A lawyer with LLB (Hons), UNN, and LLM (Brussel, Belgium), Ms Molokwu is a fellow of the Institute of Directors (UK).  She was the President, Institute of Directors of Nigeria, a Deputy Company Solicitor, ITT Nigeria Ltd., ED, FCMB as well as Chairman of Interim Management Committee of TriumphBank plc.

 Chief David Oghene

Chief David Oghene is an Accountant by profession, with Bsc Accounting from University of Lagos, 1976.  He served as Senior Accountant and Chief Internal Auditor of NNPC at various times.  He retired as Billing Manager, PPMC after 25 years of service.

 Chief Oyebisi L. Ilaka

A financial and Tax Consultant with many years of experience, Chief Ilaka holds LLB(Hons) degree.  At various times he was MD/Chairman of Mortgage Assistance Co. Ltd, UK, MD/Chairman of Total Realty Property and Financial Services Ltd. UK, Director, Wiggin Teape Nig. Ltd and a Company Secretary/ Legal Adviser of a bank in Nigeria.

 Mr. Rasaq Tunde Lawal

A Chartered Accountant, Chartered Banker and Financial Management Consultant, Mr. Lawal holds a BSC (Accounting), First Class, and Msc in System Analysis/Operations Research, from the University of Lagos and University of Aston in Birmingham, UK respectively.  A fellow of the Institute of Directors, Institute of Bankers and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, he was the Managing Consultant/CEO, RTL Konsult Ltd, Lagos, MD/CEO, NAL Merchant Bank plc, ED, International Merchant Bank (IB), before subsequently becoming the MD/CEO of the Bank.

 Mr. Aliyu Abdulrahman Dikko

Mr. Dikko holds B.sc (Accounting), 2.1 (ABU), 1980 and M.sc (Management Science), University of Manchester (UK), 1983.  He was ED, Deputy MD/CEO and subsequently the MD/CEO of UBA plc at various times.
