OPENING REMARKS BY THE MDCEO NDIC AT THE OPENING OF A ONE DAY SECURITY AWARENESS PROGRAMME ORGANISED BY THE CORPORATION IN COLLABORATION WITH DEPARTMENT OF STATE SERVICES ABUJA, ON 8TH FEBRUARY, 2011
Protocols
It is my pleasure to give an opening remark at this security awareness/sensitization programme organized by the Corporation in collaboration with the Department of State Services, FCT Command to sensitize the staff of the Corporation. Let me begin by thanking the Department of State Services for accepting the Corporation’s request to mount the awareness programme for the Corporation. The need to mount this programme cannot be overemphasized given the increasing security threats across the nation.
The growing trend of insecurity could only be addressed through collective responsibility. While the Federal Government and the various security agencies have introduced certain security measures to address the menace, the various organizations both public and private as well as the generality of Nigerians also need to become more security aware and tighten their security arrangements to ensure the successful implementation of the various security measures already put in place. As a consequence, the Corporation, in its usual proactive manner, has organized this programme to increase the security awareness of its staff. Such awareness would make staff remain security conscious not only within and around the workplace and in their respective homes but also minimise their exposure to hazard while travelling both locally and internationally. Some of the issues expected to be addressed by experienced facilitators drawn from the Department of State Services during the one-day programme would include, but not limited to the importance of ensuring personal security, security of official documents, information management and security of assets/records.
At this juncture, I wish to urge participants to seize the opportunity of this occasion to benefit from the experience of security professional by ensuring active participation, in order to achieve the Corporation’s objective of mounting the Programme. Meanwhile, I wish to particularly reiterate that the Senior Management which has always attached great importance to the security of staff would regularly sensitize staff on the need to remain conscious of their security, at all times.
On this note, I declare this security awareness/ sensitization programme open and wish you all fruitful deliberations.
Thank you for your attention.
